"'1884 Feb 7 death notice in Warren Republican for wife of Wm M. Benson, sister to Stephen, William, Isaac, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Copeland, Mrs. Broadie: By a postal card received by Mr. S. P. McClure from William M. Benson, date the 29th ult., we learn that his wife died on the 19th of January, 1884, from the effects of cancer. She had been ill a long time and a great sufferer. Her busband states that "she died shouting the praises of God, and with a full assurance that she would live again". She was the oldest sister of Stephen S., William and Issac T. Slauter, and Mrs. James Wilson, Mrs. John R. copeland and Mrs. Thomas Brodie, all of this country. She was a member of the Methodist church for many years and was 58 years of age. She leave six children all of whom are grown or nearly so. The friends of the family here mourn with them in this great loss.'
Though it doesn't name her, we believe Mrs. Benson to be Prudence Malinda Slauter, daughter of Isaac and Martha (Smalley) Slauter of Warren County, IN."
