Elizabeth "Betty" Benson
, 96, formerly of Cherokee, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005.

She was a resident of the Cornerstone Village in Pittsburg.

She was born Feb. 28, 1909, in Yale, to Herman and Lizzie (Werberger) Kruger.

She attended elementary school and graduated from Crawford Community High School in 1929.

She was a resident of Cherokee since 1923.

On Sept. 9, 1928, she married Hershel Benson in Neosho, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1993.

She was a homemaker and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include two sons, William Benson of Kansas City, Kan. and James Benson of Cherokee; one daughter, Ruth Lane of Pittsburg; one sister, Irene Kruger Michaleweiz of Rosebud, Texas; four grandsons; one granddaughter; four great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Herman Kruger Jr., William Kruger, Otto Kruger, Paul Kruger, and Karl Kruger; and three sisters, Emma Kruger Johnson, Marie Kruger, and Anna Kruger.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Rev. Larry Davolt officiating.

Burial will follow at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. today.
