Amos B. Bensen, 92, of Vermillion, SD died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, SD.

Amos was born November 4, 1916 in Maskell, Nebr., the son of Nels and Amanda (Hanson) Bensen. He graduated from Vermillion High School and attended U.S.D. for one year. Amos married Margret "Peggy" Burris on August 30, 1940 in Hartington, Nebr. In 1941, they relocated to Rockford, Illinois where Amos spent 40 years working for Greenlee Brothers, retiring in 1980. In 1981, Amos returned to Vermillion. Peggy preceded him in death on May 25, 1992. Then he married to Marvella Lavonne Minor on September 28, 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Marvella "Lavonne" of Elk Point; a daughter, Sandra (Terry) Johnson of Dixon, IL; his brothers, Donald (Roberta) Bensen of Vermillion, and Glenn (Faye) Bensen of Chandler Heights, AZ; his sisters, Glennys Robbins of Elk Point, Shirley (Morris) Marcotte of Worthington, MN, and Emlyn Benson of Algona, IA; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his step-children, Lynn (Don) Barton of MO, Rita (Gale) Dunham of Okla., Denny Minor of Akron, IA, Kevin Minor of MO, and David Minor of Volin, SD; 33 step-grandchildren; and 66 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nels & Amanda Bensen; his first wife, Peggy, two daughters, Cathy Schanke, and Linda Opsahl; two granddaughters, Kelly Kay Schnake and Carlie Schanke (in infancy); two brothers, Adrain Bensen, and Darrel Benson; and a step-son, Ron Minor.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Bergen Lutheran Church, rural Meckling, SD.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Bergen Lutheran Church, rural Meckling, SD.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery, rural Meckling, SD.
