CHARLES BENOIT, AGE 89, DIES AT ST HILAIRE
City Resident for 24 years---Came To County In 1885 Lived On Farm In Poplar River
Charles Benoit, age 89 years and a resident of Red Lake Falls for some twenty-four years, died of old age, May 14 at the home of his son, Nels Benoit of St. Hilaire. Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Catholic church of this city at 9 o'clock this Thursday morning at a solemn requiem high mass with Rev. E. J. Lemire, celebrant, Rev. Fr. Zellekens of Crookston, deacon and Rev. Victor Cardin, sub-deacon.
Deceased was born at St. Damas, Quebec, Canada, on October 7, 1839. He was married at the age of 21 years to Lucy Forin of St. Damas, where they lived for twenty-two years. They moved to Weedon, Quebec, and from there to Poplar River township of this county in 1885, where they lived for twenty years. Retiring from farming, they moved to this city and made their home here for twenty-four years.
His father Pascal Benoit and mother Mrs. Archane St. Pierre both died of old age years ago. His mother was 73 and his father 75 years at the time of their death. Interment of Charles Benoit was made in the cemetery east of this city. Being one of the early pioneers of the county, he was well known in this vicinity.
