Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Forrest Library or Maggie Bertram Foundation for the Fine Arts.
Joan was born June 25, 1938 in Mobile, Alabama, the daughter of John and Mary Josephine Cooper Trainor. She married William John Bennington on September 10, 1960 in Mobile, Alabama. He died on November 24, 2004.
Survivors include three sons, John (Jennifer) Bennington of Indianola, IA, Michael (Amy) Bennington of Metamora and Chris (Susan Standiford) Bennington of London, England; five grandchildren, Jacob, Claire, Will, Cameron and Grant; a sister, Mary (Richard) Walter of Pensacola, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Joan was a realtor for Prudential Snyder Realty in Bloomington for many years.
She was formerly a member of St. James Catholic Church in Forrest, where she was choir director, taught Sunday school and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society.
Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed watercolor painting. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
