Novelist, short story writer, dramatist and journalist. Born in Hanley, Staffordshire, the son of a solicitor and the eldest of nine children. He went on to become Editor of "Woman", 1896. Amongst his written works were “Anna of the Five Towns”, “A Man from the North” and “These Twain”. Bennett was also a member of the War Propaganda’s Bureau’s and the British War Memorial Committee, which included many great British writers of the time. Following his cremation at Golders Green, the ashes were removed. (bio by: Kieran Smith)
