Annie Laurie Bennett Died in Great Falls
Mrs. Annie Laurie Bennett passed away in a Great Falls hospital Friday evening. She had been in good health until about a month ago. Had she lived until March 6, 1962, she would have been 100 years old.
She was born March 6, 1862, at Paris, Ill. One of her most vivid recollections was the trip at the age of four she made with her parents riding in a stagecoach to Calhoun, Neb., in 1866, soon after the Civil War. She remembered her mother telling of going to school with Abraham Lincoln and believes that she saw him one time. The family homesteaded in Minnesota and she attended college at Minneapolis. She married Charles Smith at Grand Forks, N. D., in 1888, and he passed away in 1899. She married George Bennett in 1905 at Edenburg and lived there until they came to Montana to homestead in 1913. They homesteaded just nine miles north of the Dorner school. The Bennetts spent much of their time in Fort Benton and after Mr. Bennett's death in 1923, she spent all of her time in this city. She moved to Great Falls about 15 years ago to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Eva S.) Prinzing.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Congregational church. She devoted much of her time to the growing of the flowers in her gardens. Mrs. Bennett had a host of friends throughout this county who will mourn her passing.
She is survived by her daughter; a grandson, Joe Bear, of Great Falls, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Evelyn Bobbett of Ashland, Ore.; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Croxford chapel on Tuesday afternoon. Burial was made in the family plot in Riverside cemetery in Fort Benton.
The relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
