Mrs. Evelyn Bennett Atkinson, 88, died Friday (November 16, 2007) at the Satilla Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Billy's Island but grew up in Millwood and Axson before moving to Belle Glade, FL, after retiring from Winn Dixie in 1981 she moved to the Waycross area.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Frank Atkinson; her parents, John Gordan Bennett and Ettie Williams Bennett; a granddaughter, Joellyn Knight. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The survivors include three daughters, Linda Sullivan of Brantley County, Ramona Knight (husband Samual Nelson, Jr.) of Jupiter, FL and Caroline Wiseman (husband Roy Edward) of Clewiston, FL; a half sister, Lula Mae Mullis (husband Kenneth) of Brantley County; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (November 20, 2007) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Little Utah Cemetery in Axson. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Music Funeral Home.
