Barbara H. Bennett ,78, previously of Minneapolis, Minn., and Darien Conn., died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006. She was born on April 4, 1928, in Minnesota, a daughter of William and Bertha Huskins. She was active in Minnesota politics and social activities, including being head of the Orono Town Council and numerous political campaigns. After moving to Connecticut she was an active member of the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, the Ox Ridge Hunt Club, the Children's Theater and the Garden Club of Darien. In her final years in Maine, she participated in Center Stage Players, the Woolwich Historical Society, the People Plus Writers Group and the 55 Plus Center in Bath. She pursued a lifelong interest in art history, drama, antiques and was an accomplished painter and artist in her own right.

She was predeceased by her brother, William Huskins. Survived by her husband of 55 years, James G. Bennett Jr. of Bath; four sons, James G. Bennett III of Bath, William F. Bennett of Somerville, Mass., Taylor H. Bennett of Berkeley, Calif., and Robert T. Bennett of Grand Haven, Mich.; two daughters, Barbara T. Bennett of Westport, Conn., and Nancy M. Luther of Darien, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 144 Lincoln Street, Bath with Fr. Richard P. Rice officiating. A gathering of friends and family will follow in the parish fellowship hall after the service. Arrangements are by Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath.
