LAST RITES FOR MRS. WILL BENNETT HELD SATURDAY
Published April 25, 1962, La Harpe Quill, La Harpe, IL
Mrs. Ruth Ann Bennett, esteemed citizen of the Blandinsville community for many years, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 1962 in the McDonough District hospital in Macomb. In frail health for several years, Mrs. Bennett had been a patient in the hospital for only six days prior to her passing.
She was 77 years, four months and 28 days of age.
The deceased was born at Abingdon on November 19, 1884, a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Brown) Hushaw. She received her early education in the Prairie City elementary schools and went on to attend college in the first class enrolled at the old Normal school at Macomb, now known as Western Illinois University.
Because of an exceptional scholastic attainment, Mrs. Bennett was commissioned to teach after attending the college for relatively brief period, which comprised a worthwhile career of teaching in McDonough county schools before her marriage to William Bennett. The couple was married in LaHarpe and started housekeeping east of this city. They had spent virtually all the long and happy years of their family life in this immediate locality, residing in LaHarpe, Fountain Green and Stronghurst before moving to Blandinsville seven years ago. Their children and families honored them just two years ago at the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Prairie City Methodist church. She was a woman devout in her faith and highly dedicated to the welfare of her family.
Left to mourn her passing are the husband, William Bennett, of Blandinsville; six sons and daughters, Clarence Bennett of Industry, Robert, Carl and Clair Bennett, all of LaHarpe, Mrs. Kern (Elsie) Clover of Stronghurst and Mrs. Herschel (Veva) Caldwell, of Fountain Green.
Also surviving are one brother, Harold Hushaw, of Puyallup, Washington, 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by two sons in infancy, one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Verna) Huffman; two grandsons and one granddaughter.
