Son of William Ellison Bennett and Melzina Ann Burton Bennett
Husband of Leone Scoffield, 5 Nov 1930, Coalville, Summit, Utah
Obituary - Leland (Lee) William Bennett, age 91, passed away at the home of his son in Farmington, September 2, 2000 of causes incident to age.
Born in Kaysville, UT April 12, 1909 to William Ellison and Mel-zina Burton Bennett. He was reared and educated in Davis County and attended Utah State University. Married Leone Scoffield Nov 5, 1930 in Coalville, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple April 12, 1977.
Lee was forced to grow up early as his father died when he was 10 years old. As a young man he played a mean saxophone in a dance band that was popular in such places as Como Springs in Morgan, White City Ballroom and Berthana Ballroom in Ogden, and Lagoon in Farmington. He saw the world change from his first date in a horse and buggy to the computer age of today when he was heard to ask, "what do they mean by all that .com?". His willingness to share his many memories of life in the early days was a source of great pleasure for his children and grandchildren.
His accomplishments were numerous in that he was an excellent farmer (Kaysville, UT, youth-1943; Preston, ID 1943-1949), owner and butcher of Lee's Locker Mart, Farmington, UT (1949-1954), then spent his last 21 working years as a certified aircraft welder at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1974. Lee was a hard working man who was generous with his equipment and gladly gave assistance to those who needed it. He was trustworthy and honest; his handshake was his bond.
Surviving are two sons and two daughters, William (Paulette), Layton, UT, Richard (Gail), Farmington, UT, Anne (Linden) Beckstead, Whitney, ID, currently on a mission at Temple Square, Kaye (Ned) Klitgaard, Woods Cross, UT; a brother, Alan D. (Ruth) Bennett, Layton, UT; a brother-in-law, Bill Mathews; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife; brother and sister, Waynard Bennett, Merle Mathews; and a grandchild, Shane Klitgaard.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wed. Sept 6, at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, where friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tues. Sept 6, and Wed. 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
