Ben "Frog" Bennett, 80, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. He was born on June 26, 1934 in Cannon's Campground, son of the late Walter and Ellie Bennett. He was the husband to the love of his life, Martha (Fowler) Bennett, with whom he is with today.
He was a truck driver for 35 years, and retired from Estes Express. Ben was also a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. Frog was a member of Cannon's Campground United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Bennett and Eric (Teresa) Bennett of Cannon's Campground; three grandchildren, Erica, Corey, and Brooke Bennett, who were the light of his life. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carlisle "Hut" Bennett, James "Tot" Bennett, and one sister, Kathleen Bennett Arthur. Frog is also survived by a sister-in-law, Doris Bennett of Cannons Campground, and brother-in-law, Donald Fowler of Rock Hill, SC; many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Ben was a graduate of Cowpens High School, where he excelled in all sports, highlighted by a State Championship with Cowpens American Legion Post #125. A lifetime South Carolina Gamecock fan, Frog enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and attending his grandchildren's events and activities. Frog never met a stranger, and was a friend to many.
We would like to give Special thanks to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, especially Paige, Adrienne, Maurice, and Charlette.
Visitation will be at 12:00 – 2:45 PM, with a service following at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Cannon's Campground United Methodist Church, 3450 Cannon's Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Mac Kinnett, Rev. James W. Johnston, Jr., and Rev. Brent Powell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Home of Spartanburg, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
The family is at the home of son, Eric Bennett at 110 Carlisle Bennett Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
