Albany Vindicator, Aug. 31, 1905
Franklin Bennett was born in Charlotte, Crittendon County, Vermont on December 12, 1821. At the age of 13 he moved with his parents to Canton, St. Lawrence County, New York and there grew to manhood. In 1844 he was married to Sarah Rounds and after their marriage they moved to Moon (should be Boone) County, Illinois where to their union eight children were born, three of whom survive: Emma Bacon of Monroe, J.F. Bennett of Altoona and Ann Bennett of Albany.
After her death (transcriber's note, assuming this means his wife's death) they moved to Green County and in 1859 he married Mrs. Eliza Edwards who still survives him. He united with the Methodist Church in 1860 and has ever since lived a consistent Christian life. He was a member of the Erastus Hoyt Post 69 and enlisted in the 31st Wisconsin Infantry Company F on Aug. 21, 1862 and mustered out on June 20, 1865. He was a man of sterling integrity having the esteem and respect of all classes. His influence was always exerted on the side of morality, temperance and exact justice to all; a kind father and a staunch and faithful friend. He closed his life on Aug. 20 aged 83 years, 7 months and 8 days mourned by all who knew him.
