LAYTON - Alan D. Bennett, 86, passed away December 9, 2004 after a short illness. He was at his home in Layton, Utah with family by his side.
Alan was born March 31, 1918 at home in Kaysville, Utah to William Ellison and Melzina Burton Bennett. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Northern Central States; served as a Pharmacists Mate in the Navy during World War II; and attended four years college between Utah State University and the University of Utah.
Alan married Ruth Mortensen on March 22, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding several positions. Alan and Ruth especially enjoyed being temple workers for many years in the Salt Lake Temple.
He loved horses throughout his life and served for many years as the Captain of the Davis County Sheriffs Posse. He loved to hunt and fish, often camping in the Uintahs with his family. Alan and Ruth traveled extensively across the U. S. after his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years; two daughters and two sons, Julianne Bennett, Kaysville; Alene Park, South Weber; Mark (Teresa) Bennett, Syracuse; Craig (Jeanie) Bennett, St. George; nine grandchildren, Phillip (Holli) Renie, Brad (Wendi) Hess, Scott Hess, Brandon, Ashley, Tyler, CJ, Chase and Skylar Bennett; and four great-grandchildren, Michael, Cassie, Jaxon and Elizabeth Renie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Merle Matthews, and brothers Waynard John and Leland William Bennett.
Alan was a loving father and husband, and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Lindquists Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends may call at the mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 13 and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
