Born in Jackson, CA on October 29, 1905, Etta entered into eternal life on October 6, 2005, in Sacramento. She graduated from Sacramento High School where she started the first Girls' Athletic Association there, and served as its first president. After teaching piano for a time, she obtained her credential and began her 30 year career in elementary education. During WWII, she took a sabbatical to work with the Red Cross serving in many capacities and rising to the rank of Major. After her retirement in 1969, she devoted her time to caring for her husband and parents until their deaths; then, spent the next 30 years lending her skills to her church and other organizations, such as the Retired And Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.), Runaway Hotline, and her beloved Mercy Hospice, where she dedicated over 10 years as a volunteer. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Patrick Bennett, former Superintendent of Traffic for the Sacramento Police Department; her parents, Daniel and Rose Tatti; and brothers, Charlie and Joe. She is lovingly survived by children, Barbara (Ron) Her- mann, Patrick Jr. (Lenora), and Mary Bennett; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She loved music and entertaining at social gatherings, playing piano or ukulele and often leading the whole group in song. She also loved bright colors and those attending the services are encouraged to dress as colorfully as they wish. Etta was a strong, dynamic, hard working and fun loving woman who lived an incredibly productive and awe-inspiring life in service to others. She touched many lives and is greatly loved. Friends are welcome for visitation on Tuesday (10/11) at W.F. Gormley & Sons Chapel, 2015 Capitol Avenue, from Noon until the Rosary which will be held at Gormley's at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of her soul on Wednesday (10/12) at I1:00am, at St. Francis Catholic Church 1066 26th Street. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to a charity of choice.
