Services for Bob Eugene Bennett, 80, Ada, will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial follows at the Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville. Officiating will be the Rev. David McCann and assisting will be the Rev. Frank Giles. Family has requested that donations may be made to the Fine Arts Department, c/o East Central University Foundation, 1100 E. 14th St. Ada, OK, 74820.
Mr. Bennett died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman. He was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Holdenville Frank and Lula Hill Bennett.
He married Sally Farr on April 2, 1955, in Antlers.
Mr. Bennett graduated from Holdenville Public Schools in 1949 in Holdenville. He served in the 45th Division of the United States Army in Japan and the Korean War from 1950 to 1952, and continued to serve until 1962. He was a Bronze Star recipient. He graduated from East Central University in Ada in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in Norman in 1958 with his Juris Doctorate. He was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association that same year and practiced law from 1958 through 2008. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals, 10th Circuit, United States District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Oklahoma. He was instrumental in the organization of Attorney's Mutual Insurance Company with the vice president and members of the Oklahoma Bar Association. He held several Bar Association Offices; President, Pontotoc County Bar Association; the Board of Governors of Oklahoma Bar Association; Vice-President, Oklahoma Bar Association; Chair, Probate Code Committee, Oklahoma Bar Associatin; member of the American Bar Association; Fellow American College of Trust and Estate Counsel; Fellow Oklahoma Bar Foundation and American Bar Foundation; and a member of the Oklahoma Health Lawyers Association. He was appointed by United States Senator David Boren to the Judicial Selection Committee for Federal Judges in Oklahoma. He also received the Joe Stamper Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma Bar Association in 2008. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ada.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Bennett of the home; one brother, Harry L. Bennett, Tulsa; one sister, Willa Mae Minor, Mulberry, Ark.; two nephews who were like his brothers, Bill D. Giles and his wife Mary Ann of Newcastle, and B.R. Gordon Jr. and his wife Sue, Yukon; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lula Bennett; three brothers, Frank Bennett Jr., J.D. Bennett, and Henry Bennett; and four sisters, Maudie Giles, Thelma Gordon, Gladys Swinehart and Betty White.
Bearers will be Walter Newmaster, Tommy Landrith, Jim Barnes, Lee R. West, Bob Jones and Bobby Lee.
Honorary bearers will be Bill Horne Jr., Dean Peterson, Nancy Shew, Rita Engel, Kaywood Deese, Billie Floyd and Denzil Garrison.
