Nancy was born in Shelby Illinois to William Jr. Bennett and Elizabeth Bell Bennett. She was my 3rd Great Grandmother. She was the youngest and last child. He father, William, died of exposure in 1850 in Iowa.
Her ancestor (John Bennett 1624-1670) was from Wivelliscombe, Somerset, England and came to the US in 1649 to escape Oliver Cromwell. He & wife Mary were the first of our line to migrate to the US.
In 1851 she was on an unknown wagon train departing from Kanesville, Iowa in the spring. She met & was accompanied by Jesse McCauslin and his children His previous 2 wives had passed away (first wife, Lucrecia died 16 Ap 1842 in childbirth and 2nd wife Mary Jane passed in June 1851 enroute to Utah. She was also Nancy's sister. Also on the wagon train were Nancy's mother Elizabeth, her sister Martha, and brothers John, Hiram, and Alfred. They arrived in Salt Lake Oct. 7, 1851.
Nancy married Jesse after they arrived in Salt Lake. They we married & sealed Oct 29, 1864 in Salt Lake at the Endowment House. She was 18. They left SL & made their way first to Cedar Valley, then Provo where they remained the rest of their lives.
Besides raising the children from Jesse's previous marriages, she and Jesse had 8 children of their own. They lost 3 children, but the rest made it to adulthood.
She was the mother of Sarah Ann McCauslin Rawlings, my 2nd great grandmother, and Mary Jane McCauslin Grier, my 2nd great aunt.
She was a very special lady. She passed away in 1909.
