Genevieve Marie Bennett Stewart

Genevieve Marie Bennett Stewart (Mrs. L. N. "Nick" Stewart ) passed away peacefully May 18, 2003.

She was born July 20, 1920 to Oscar Voyd Bennett Sr. and Roxie Ophelia Browning Bennett of Dallas, Texas.

Her husband of 48 years L. N. "Nick" Stewart and her brother Gerald Browning Bennett of Houston, Texas precede her in death.

She is survived by her brother, Mr. Oscar Voyd (O. V.) Bennett, Jr. of Austin, Texas; her son Bennett Clarke Stewart of Dallas and his son Collin Clarke Stewart of Cypress, Texas; her son, Randel Browning Stewart of Plano and his wife, Carrie (Carolyn) Joan Slater Stewart and their children, William John Stewart, Evan Christopher Stewart and Catherine Joy Stewart.

Her love of music and use of her God-given talents as a vocalist were second only to the love she had for her husband and family. Her singing career started as a teenager in church choir grew with her studies at Hockaday Junior College as a music major, and continued throughout the remainder of her life. She was active in the Dallas Lyric Opera and in the Musical Arts Club of Dallas performing in numerous classical programs. She frequently sang as a soloist at weddings and funerals and as a member of the choir of Park Cities Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Amite Sunday School Class and had been a member of the church for 60 years.

She brought beauty, laughter and music into the lives of her friends and family and was looking ahead to the future. She loved the Lord, served His church and her children rise up and call her blessed.

Interment will be held Thursday May 22 at 1:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Ellis Chapel at Park Cities Baptist and a reception in Ellis Parlor thereafter.

Memorials may be directed to the 50+ Ministry or to the Genevieve Stewart Memorial Vocal Scholarship Fund at Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 NW Parkway, Dallas TX 75225.
