She was the daughter of William and Marie (Rossing) Bennett. Debbie was raised in Ridgeway, Wisconsin, and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1973. A free spirit, who found it easy to talk to anyone, she found life in her small town to quiet. So at the age of 20, she moved to a larger city- Madison. She found work there and began making friends. Seven months later, she was last seen on July 8, 1976, and her remains were found on July 21, 1976 near Cross Plains. She was a victim of a homicide. She was survived by her parents; a brother and three sisters. Her father passed away on July 26, 1976, and a joint funeral was held. They were buried in East Side Cemetery in Dodgeville. Her murder remains unsolved.
