Veteran of World War II. Served in the United States Navy aboard an aircraft carrier at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Transferred to the Coast Guard in 1946 and served in Korea, Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. He was in charge of the Coast Guard Depot machine shop in Brooklyn, New York.
