Albert was born in Krtetice, Bohemia (now in the Czech Republic) in 1853 to Jan and Maria Vanek Benesh. He was possibly the eighth child of at least 12 with seven of them boys and five of them girls. His sister, Katerina, who was born two years after him died at age 2. However as was the custom at the time to name later children after ones who had passed, his parents also named Albert's youngest sibling, born in 1861, Katerina.

Albert left Bohemia around 1870 along with at least a few of his siblings to travel to the United States. He settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, and married Elizabeth Lucik on 16 Oct. 1873 in the St. Francis Seraph church. According to the 1910 census, the couple had 11 children. Children identified are: Albert Jr., Frank Anthony, John, Anthony, Otto (who died at age 6 months in 1882), Clara, Mathilda, Anna, Emmanuel, Robert, and Edward. John and Anthony also passed away very young in the year 1882 from smallpox.

Both of Albert's parents died soon after their children left for America with his father, Jan, passing away at age 59 in 1874 and his mother, Maria, passing away at age 59 in 1879.

Albert worked for many years as a shoemaker, possibly until he became ill in 1923 due to cancer. He passed away on May 17, 1924. It is interesting that his maternal grandfather is listed in records in Czechoslovakia as a person who made hosiery.

Note - while several records throughout Albert's life show his birth date as March 30th, his baptismal record shows a birth and baptism date of March 3rd.
