Beatrice Biggers Benefield, 97, of 209 Walnut St., Cedartown passed away on Friday, March 24, 2006 at her residence. Mrs. Benefield was born in Polk County on Sept. 23, 1908 and is the daughter of the late Charles E. Biggers and Elizabeth Hammond Biggers. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Cedartown for 51 years and a member of the Doris Gammage Adult Woman's Bible Class. Mrs. Benefield was employed at Polk School District for over 40 years as the dietitian manager for Purks and Northside Elementary Schools. After retirement, she served her church as dietitian manager over the Wednesday night family suppers and other special occasions during her 25 years of service before retiring. Mrs. Benefield was preceded in death by her late husband N.R. (Hoke) Benefield; her parents Charles and Elizabeth Hammond Biggers; brother, Lewis Biggers; sister, Wylone Knight, Paula Ledbetter, Clyde Tidwell; her daughter, Betty Hobgood and a grandson. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hazel Whitfield of Dalton; daughter, Beth Benefield Helton of Murphy, N.C.; two sons, John Harold Benefield and Charles W. Benefield, both of Cedartown. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2006 at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Rev. Wayne Benefield and Dr. David Taylor officiating. Interment followed at the North View Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, John Benefield, Jr., Jimmy Benefield, Chris Hobgood, John Barrett, David Lindsey and Paul Chafin. Flowers were accepted or donations could be made to the First Baptist Church or to Heymen Hospice Care of Floyd County. The Olin L. Gammage Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
