Sherman- Funeral services for Billy Griff Benedict will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday September 21 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Rev. James Crawford of the Cornerstone Baptist Church will officiate. Devon Thomas, Dylon Travis, Drake Beamsderfer, and Chuck Baldwin will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Benedict, 69, passed away Sunday September 18 at Texoma Medical Center.
Billy was born February 2, 1942 in Sherman to the late Willie and Mildred (Wallace) Benedict. He attended Sherman schools and worked as a carpet layer for many years. In retirement, Billy found his second career. He repaired lawn mowers in his garage at the corner of Cherry and Grand and became the "Lawnmower Man" of Sherman. Billy married Faye Williams on September 2, 1989 in Sherman. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and was a longtime member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church. Mr. Benedict will be remembered as a loving, husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Benedict is survived by his wife Faye of Sherman; five sons, Billy Benedict and wife Karen of Newman, Georgia, William Blankenship of Sherman, William L. Benedict and wife Terri of Sherman, Shane E. Benedict and wife Jennifer of Sherman, and James Michael Blankenship and wife Charlene of Sherman; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five sisters, Margaret Carroll of Howe, Dorothy Matthews of Sherman, Wanda Fountain of Howe, Lena Flexer of Sherman, and Mary Hill of Sherman; one brother, Roger Benedict of Sherman; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Pugsley. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David Benedict, and one sister, Margie Baldwin.
