Car Kills Grayson Resident
A lifelong resident of the Sherman area was struck and killed by a car on Woodlake Road, near Woodlawn Country Club Saturday night.
Dorchester C. Benedict, 52, of Route 3, Denison, was crossing the road on foot when the accident occurred. Grayson County sheriff's deputies said the driver of the car was, Kenneth Mills of Denison, operator of the country club. Mills notified the Grayson County sheriff's office immediately after the accident.
Benedict was near his home when he was hit. State Highway Patrolmen investigated the accident.
Funeral services are pending at the Barrett-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Benedict was born Aug.9, 1911 in Whiterock community north of Sherman, a son of Frank and Evalee Dodd Benedict. He married Zell Pedigo Jan. 9, 1927.
He had been employed by Texas Power & Light Co. until recently. He was a member of the Kerr Chapel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; his mother of Sherman; three daughters, Mrs. Jack Crockett and Mrs. David Veazy of Sherman and Miss Helen Benedict of Denison route 3; two sons, D. C. Benedict of Sherman and Wendell Mark Benedict of Denison route 3; one brother, Willie Benedict of Sherman; and five grandchildren.
