Mildred "Penny" Bender, 88, Hollidaysburg, died Sunday. She was born in St. Boniface, daughter of the late Wilfred and Anna (Thomas) Anna. Surviving are six children: Joan Stasik, Jim, Terry, Karen Powell, Laureen Holtz and Tom; 17 grandchildren; and eight siblings: Edgar, Daniel, Richard, Dennis, Kathleen Waksmunski, Florence Jack, Connie Dubetsky and Linda Holeman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair M. Bender; two brothers: Gerald and Robert; and a sister, Mary Strittmatter. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 1004 Fifth Ave., Patton. A funeral Mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton.

HOLLIDAYSBURG — BENDER – Mildred "Penny," 88, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Patton, passed away Sept. 25, 2011, at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. Born Nov. 10, 1922, in St. Boniface, daughter of Wilfred and Anna (Thomas) Anna. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Clair M. Bender; brothers, Gerald and Robert "Bones" Anna; and sister, Mary Grace Strittmatter. Survived by children, Joan (Walter) Stasik, Lancaster; and Jim (Eileen Pallone) Bender, Terry (Kim Peters) Bender, Karen (Ray "Skip") Powell, Laureen "Lori" (Jeff) Holtz and Tom (Amanda Fitzpatrick) Bender, all of Patton; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers and sisters, Edgar Anna, St. Boniface; Daniel Anna, Carrolltown; Richard Anna, St. Boniface; Dennis Anna, Altoona; Kathleen Waksmunski, Hastings; Florence Jack, Emporium; Connie Dubetsky, Hastings; and Linda Holeman, Silver Springs, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred spent her life as a mother and homemaker and co-owner of Grandview Dairy Farm, Patton. Member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton; Altar Rosary Society; and was active with the PTO and 4H Club. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and canning. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 1004 Fifth Ave., Patton, Pa. 16668, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton, by Benedictine Fathers. Committal, St. Mary's Cemetery, Patton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Southern Care Hospice, 206 Salon Lane, Altoona, Pa. 16602. (
