Mary I. Bender, 79, of Kalona died Friday, May 4, 2007 in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, of pneumonia.
Services were Monday, May 7, in Fairview Mennonite Church, rural Kalona, with Pastors John Hershberger and Perry Miller officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, rural Kalona. Casketbearers were Marvin Bender, Lloyd D. Bender, Derald Bender, LaVern Shetler, Larry Miller, Dwight Bender, Wilbur Shetler and Rufus Bender.
Born March 20, 1928 in Kalona, she was the daughter of Ira and Lena (Miller) Bender.
Miss Bender worked in home care and as custodian at Fairview Mennonite Church for 15 years.
She was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church.
Survivors include three siblings, Ivan Bender of Kalona, Monroe Bender of Washington, Lloyd and wife Barbara Bender of Kalona and Ruby and husband Owen Miller of Oxford; a brother-in-law, Paul Shetler of Greenwood, Delaware; 27 nieces and nephews and a number of great- and great-great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Shetler; and two sisters-in-law, Mattie Bender and Barbara Bender.
