Harry M. Benden, 81, of 1205 W. Merle Lane died at 11:48 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center emergency room.
Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Cokeville, Pa., to Merrill and Etna Short Benden, he married Colleen Hinkle on June 13, 1944, in Granite City. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Boyer and Gail (and Allan) Silzer, both of Peoria; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Roberta Kalb of Pekin and Martha Kozamchak of Blairsville, Pa.; and one brother, Russell (and Sharon) Diven of Schaumburg.
A World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he served as a gunner on a B-29 Superfortress bomber in the Pacific Theater.
An employee of Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 37 years, he retired as a machinist in 1986.
