Bruce Patrick Bendele, loving husband, father, and son, former Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and Manager of Services at the Headquarters Marine Corps Exchange at Quantico, died on June 30, 2011, at the age of 56.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1977 until 1990 and continued service to his beloved Marines for more than 20 years at Quantico, overseeing small businesses and service contracts for Marine base exchanges worldwide in support of personal and family readiness programs.

Bruce was born in Columbus, Oh., on June 27, 1955, to Ronald and Sarah Patricia Bendele, the oldest of four children.

He married Barbara Lynn Matthews on April 1, 1978, in Sylvania, Oh. Bruce was a graduate of the Ohio State University with a BA in history and was a loyal Buckeye fan all of his life.

He was a devoted Boy Scout leader for the past 11 years, serving with Packs 26, 142, and Troop 142, as an assistant den leader, scoutmaster, and committee chair. Bruce was a parishioner of St. William of York Catholic Church in Stafford for over 20 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, Anna Patricia, Eleanor Lynn, Rodney James, Leah Teresa, and Michael Conrad Bendele of Stafford, Va.; his parents, Ronald and Sarah Patricia Bendele; siblings, Richard Bendele (Sharon) and Kay Bendele, all of Grove City, Oh., and Rhonda Dant (Tim) of Dublin, Oh.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for the Bendele children's college fund c/o Barbara Bendele. Semper Fidelis
