David William Benchoff, 73, well known poultry fancier, died Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at his home, 454 Cleveland Avenue, Waynesboro.
He had been unable to work since October 19 and had been confined to his home. He had been critically ill for the last two weeks.
He was born at Charmian, the son of Henry H and Martha J Frey Benchoff.
His earlier life was lived at Charmian and following his marriage he resided in Gettysburg. Forty years ago he moved to Waynesboro. He was one of the first employees of the Landis Machine Company and was still on the payroll when he died. He served as foreman of the Chaser Department for many years.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed church and the amen's Bible class. HE was a member of the Knights of Pythias.
As a poultry fancier he entered the bids in local shows as well as in Boston and Madison Square Garden. His entries won many ribbons and trophies.
Surviving are the following children, Guy A.; Martha C.; and Ruth V., at home; a grandchild; two great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, John, Charmian; Samuel, Waynesboro; Harvey, Littlestown; Mrs. Frances McCleaf and Mrs. Annie Wortz, Fairfield.
Funeral services this afternoon at 2:30 from Trinity Evangelical and Reformed church, Waynesboro, in charge of the Rev. George H Bricker. Interment in Fairfield Union cemetery.
