Albert Beltran, Sr.
(January 11, 1923 - June 29, 2012)
Albert Beltran, Sr., age 89, passed away June 29, 2012, in his home in Lompoc.
He was born in Santa Maria, Durango, Mexico on January 11, 1923, and spent most of his life in and around Lompoc. Albert came to the Santa Ynez Valley when he was 18 years old where he worked as a ranch hand on the Mitchell Ranch. He frequently visited Lompoc, where he met his wife of 52 years, Helen Karmanos, at the El Zarape Restaurant. They were married in Santa Ynez in 1952, and purchased their home in Lompoc in 1960, where the raised their family.
He was a cement mason by trade since 1960, and laid the foundation for many homes and businesses on Ocean Avenue and all over the Lompoc and Santa Ynez Valley. He retired from the Local Union #600 in 1985. Albert had a tremendous zest for life and the outdoors. He enjoyed taking long drives through out the valley, and often stopped at Paradise Store to buy his favorite jerky or to take a break to enjoy a Tall Coors Original under his favorite oak tree. He also enjoyed camping and hunting in Red Rock, Figueroa Mountain, Miranda Pines, Colson Canyon as well as many areas in Wyoming and Colorado. He loved spending time with his family and friends and entertaining at his home. Enjoying BBQ in the back yard was a special treat as well as enjoying his award winning menudo every New Years.
Albert was one of the founding members of the Mexican Social Organization which was established in 1961. He loved to dance and attended the organization's weekly Saturday night dances. He sent many years slicing and shredding cheese in the Mexican Social's Quesadilla Booth at the Lompoc Flower Festival. He was also Moose member for 20 years
Albert is survived by three brothers and two sisters who reside in Mexico as well as his sister Maria Castorena (Tia), his children Yolanda and Tony McCormack, Albert and Sue Beltran, Christina and Mike Forren, Richard and Sheree Beltran, Arthur and Vickie Beltran, David Beltran and Ramona Allen, Manuel and Christina Beltran, Helen and Dale Kishbaugh and 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Beltran.
Visitation will be at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Sunday July 8, 2012, from 4-7pm. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at The La Purisima Catholic Church on Monday July 9, 2012, at 10 am. Interment will be in the Los Alamos Cemetery followed by a reception at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Lompoc.
