Mr. Belshaw grew up in the John Day Valley and graduated from Grant Union High School.
In 1952, he married Vicky Norris. He graduated in May 1963 from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo., and his first pastorate was Grace Baptist Temple in Lebanon. The couple moved Texas where he served as assistant pastor from 1985-92 at Arlington Baptist Temple. He then returned to Grant County and pastored at the First Baptist Church until January 1994.
