Ruth E. Bashford, 85, of New Smyrna Beach, died June 6, 2014 at Oaktree Healthcare, Daytona Beach. Born in Titusville on August 19, 1928, she moved to this area as an infant. A registered nurse, Ruth worked at Fish Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Smyrna Beach Garden Club, former CAPS secretary and a life member of New Smyrna Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 3, all of New Smyrna Beach. Mrs. Bashford loved RVing, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include a son, David D. Dempsey and his wife Jill and their daughter Devon of New Smyrna Beach; three step-sons, James Bashford of Albany, New York, Kenneth Bashford of Centreville, Virginia, Paul Bashford of Columbus, South Carolina; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Bashford; daughter and son-in-law, Bob and Darlene D. Dempsey Yurgalewicz ; step-daughter, Judy Marie Moore; and two brothers, Charles Belote and Wendall Sessions. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel with the Reverend Larry Husebo, Christ Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
