Birth: 1880
Nova Scotia, Canada
Death: Dec. 6, 1917
Halifax
Nova Scotia, Canada

Jessie Mary Dunn Bell, 37, was a victim of the Halifax Explosion. She perished with her three youngest children. Her husband and four eldest children survived.

Jessie was the daughter of Andrew and Johanna Dunn.

The family had lost one son in infancy.
Jessie is listed in the Halifax Explosion Memorial as 'Jennie' and was said to have been lost with four children, not three. No one can find a record for the fourth child lost. All her surviving children, grew up and married.

Jessie was married to Thomas Bell on 27 August 1899, Halifax.
They had eight children:

Mary Joanna "Joan" (13 Jan 1900-?)
John Francis "Jack" (11 May 1903-?)
Gwendoline Catherine (7 Nov 1906-?)
Margaret Ernestine (14 April 1909-?)
Kenneth Thomas (13 Oct. 1910-14 Aug. 1911)
Stanley (1912-1917)
Gerald Francis (1914-1917)
Lawrence "Laurie" (1916-1917)

The family lived at 1349 Barrington Street.

Due to the amount of damage done, the tsunami, the fires and a snowstorm just days later, many bodies were either not recovered until the spring or summer. Many bodies were never found at all.
