Catherine Elizabeth Townsend was the daughter of Barkley Townsend (1804-1857) and Leah Harmonson (or just Harmon?) Copes Townsend (1803-1873), who married 24 Aug 1826 at New Castle, Sussex County, Delaware.

Catherine married James Hall Bell (1825-1892) on 01 Dec 1847 at Houston, Harris County, Texas. Catherine and James were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. Evelyn Hunter Bell Wright (1848-1904)
2. Barclay Townsend Bell (1850-1930)
3. Elizabeth Lucinda (Lucy) Copes Bell Stiles (1853-1906)
4. Leah Emily Bell Copes (1855-1911)
5. Jane (Jennie) Rebecca Bell Andrews (1857-1952)
6. Thaddeus Constantine Bell (1860-1916)
7. Manson McCormick Bell (1862-1864)
8. James Hall Bell (1872-1872)
