William Herbert "Bud" Bell, 81, of Hiltons, Va., went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, September 17, 2009. Bud was born in Ivanhoe, Va. where he lived until he moved to Kingsport, Tenn. and later Hiltons, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Moss Bell; sister, Mamie Bell Jackson; parents, Thomas E. and Lucinda Bell; and stepdaughter, Bobbie Robinson. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Bell; daughter, Janie Gilbert and husband, Scott; sons, Tom Bell and wife, Pepper, and Bill Bell; stepdaughters, Julie Smith and husband, Mathew, Connie Hefflin, Kayla Brinager, Christy Robinson and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Barton Gilbert, William Gilbert, Mathew Bell, B. J. Bell; 10 stepgrandchildren; one greatgranddaughter; a faithful brother and sister-in-law, Muncie and Mary Moss; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to Pat Waycaster, Wendy Ryans and Beverly Turner for their help and support. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2009, Hiltons Memorial United Methodist Church of Hiltons, Va. A memorial service will follow in the church at 7 p.m. with Pastor Will Shewey officiating. Graveside services will be held Sunday, September 20, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ivanhoe, Va. Pallbearers will be John Waycaster, Barton Gilbert, William Gilbert, Sam Moss, Randy Moss, Michael Robinson, Mathew Smith and Ricky Ryans. Honorary pallbearers will be Mathew Bell, B. J. Bell, Ryan Smith, James Jackson and Frank Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to either Hiltons Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 10, Hiltons, Va. 24258 and/or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va.
