|Birth: ||Jun. 15, 1925|
Mary Beatrice O'Rourke Bell (Betty), our beautiful Mother, faithful wife to James, and incredible beloved Grandmother went home to her Lord on Sunday, April 7th in the afternoon, at the age of 87. Her passing was quiet and peaceful and she was surrounded by family .
Betty was born, June 15th 1925, in Leopolis, Missouri to Matilda Mae and Joseph Francis O'Rourke. She was the youngest of 5 children. She took great Joy in her Faith in God, her Irish roots and love of family and land. This fabric of Joy was what she wrapped around all of us who were blessed to know her.
Betty married the love of her life, James Joseph Bell, October 29, 1946. They were inseparable for 58 years. They moved their family to Reno from Kansas City, MO in 1961. Their lives were focused on and devoted to their fives sons and three daughters. James passed away March 22, 2005 (born May 22, 1913).
The Bell family was Betty's greatest Joy on this Earth. Our Mom gave her whole life to us. Betty and Jim were a great team who managed home and work well, setting high standards for us. Mom and Dad taught us to work hard and be loyal. They led by example, the greatest teacher.
Betty greatly valued education. She studied to be a Registered Nurse at Saint Margaret's Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. She loved nursing and excelled at it. Many people who were blessed to have her as a nurse still sing her praises to this day. Betty helped to found the Nevada Nurses Registry, providing private duty nurses for patients. She served as President. We thank you Mom for setting a powerful example of Faith, Love, Family and Work.
Surviving relatives are: sons, Joseph, David, Barney, and Jim; daughters: Patricia, Annie, and Susan; Her Grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Helen Lee M. O'Rourke; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her Husband, James Joseph and her youngest son, Richard Charles; Her Brother, Barney; and her sisters, Marjorie and Francis. We love you Momma, Erin Go Bragh!
A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life for Betty Bell will be held on Saturday, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Reno. Burial will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery. Betty's family appreciates your kind thoughts, notes and prayers.
