"Susan was born 3 May 1894 in rural Lexington to Rober M. and Amanda (Waller) Bell. She grew up on a farm in Dawson County.
The family moved to Lexington, where Susan attended high school, graduating in 1912. Following high school, she attended Kearney Normal School to become a teacher. She taught for one year at Ogallala.
After teaching, she worked in women's fashions. She moved to Omaha where she worked for Masterson Brothers Millinery for seven uears until the store closed. She then returned to Lexington where she worked for McVickers Ready to Wesar for Three years.
She married Roy Maxfeldt. He preceded her in death in 1980. After the death of her husband she moved to Holdrege, but Lexington was always "home"to her.
Her survivors include one son Bill (Frances) Gillespie of Lexington. She had one other son Robert who preceded her in death."
