John Henry Bell, 54, died Wednesday, May 12, at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Golden Triangle. Burial in Friendship Cemetery.
He was a former police officer and detective for the Jackson Police Department. In 1966, he left the police department and opened Shoney's restaurant in Hattiesburg. He managed the restaurant until 1973 when he moved to Columbus and opened Bonanza steak house. He also managed Ponderosa Bar X and The Fisherman's Door restaurants. He was owner and operator of D.B. and B. Amusements Inc, and a member of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association, Pearl Masonic Lodge 23 and lake Norris Fishing Club.
Mr. Bell, the husband of Sharon B. Bell, also leaves a daughter, Marcia Bell Mangina of Bloomington, IL; two sons, John Henry Bell II of Jacksonville, AL and Devon Brody Bell of Columbus; his mother, Mary Bassett Bell of Forest; four sisters, Mamie Lee Stewart of Pelahatchie, Martha Adcox and Doris Robinson, both of Forest, and Dr. Katie Payne of Nesbit; six brothers, Lester F. Bell of New Albany, Herbert Bell of Hayes, VA, Otha Bell of Walla Walla, WA, and Tommie Bell, Richard Bell and Jeff Bell, all of Forest and two grandchildren.
