Pardoned Prisoner Is Dead.
CHANUTE, Kan., Dec. 17 - John Bell, aged twenty one years, who died at the home of his mother in this city last Friday morning of consumption, was buried yesterday in Elmwood cemetery.
July 4, 1898, Bell, while in an intoxicated condition, shot and killed Byron Cushman at Humboldt, seven miles north of Chanute, and for the crime was sentenced to the penitentiary for twelve years. About a month ago his mother secured his pardon on account of his extreme illness, the penitentiary physician certifying that he could live only a short time.
