Dorothy Irene Bell Cadwallader (1922 - 2012)

Dorothy Irene Bell Cadwallader, 89, widow of Chester S. Cadwallader Jr., made her transition home to the Father on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tate Springs Baptist Church, 4201 Little Road, Arlington. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to Tate Springs Baptist Church or to a congregation of choice are most appreciated.

Born on April 11, 1922, Dorothy Irene Bell was the fourth daughter of the Rev. Paul C. and Ida Pearl Bell of Bastrop, who dedicated their lives and ministry to the Hispanic people of South Texas. Dorothy was the first of her six siblings to complete a degree, graduating in 1941 from Baylor, where she met and later married Chester Cadwallader Jr. After the young couple graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1944, they took a pastorate with the fledgling congregation of College Place Baptist Church in Monroe, La. Paul Bell, her father, had become a missionary to Panama and Central America, inspiring his daughter, Dorothy, and her husband, Chester, to dedicate their lives in 1953 to bringing the word of God to Guatemala and neighboring countries. They served there through the Southern Baptist Convention Foreign Mission Board through 1979, with a deep love of the Lord and the people they served. After retiring from foreign missions, they continued in the ministry and teaching, moving to Arlington in 1990, and became members of Tate Springs Baptist, which has remained her church family. Dorothy continued to spread her love and radiance to all she contacted to the very end, and lives on in the hearts and minds of the many lives she touched as a disciple of Christ. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Samuel, in April 1997; and her eldest son, Chester Seth, in 1982.

Survivors: She is survived by her loving family: sons, David Cadwallader, Ralph Cadwallader and wife, Sandy; daughters, Martha Heitkamp and husband, Dr. Jeff Heitkamp, Gloria Williams and husband, Mel; grandchildren, Jason Cadwallader and wife, Shelby, Karen West and husband, Ryan, Jeannette Simmons and husband, Clint, Emily Heitkamp and Jeffrey Heitkamp; six beautiful great-grandchildren; sisters, Bea Kimbrough of Midwest City, Okla., and Carolyn Weathersbee of Rotan; beloved sister-in-law, Jean Swearingen of Shreveport; and many nieces and nephews.
