Herald Coaster, January 2, 1974:

Funeral services for Monroe J. Behrens, 58, of Houston, a former East Bernard resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Methodist Church in East Bernard, with the Rev. Don Sinclair officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery there.

Mr. Behrens died in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Houston Jan. 1. A native of Tavener, he worked for Houston Lighting & Power Co. for 37 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 226 of East Bernard. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joy Behrens of Houston; one son, John Keith Behrens of Houston; mother, Mrs. Louise Gabler Behrens of East Bernard; two brothers, William G. Behrens of Detroit, Mich. and Hugh C. Behrens of Angleton; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Kubena of East Bernard, Mrs. Martha Ripple of Houston, and Mrs. Virginia Wollam of Danbury.

Friends may call after 3:30 today at the Garmany and Co. Funeral Home Chapel in Rosenberg.
