20 Feb 1920: Mrs. Clara Behney Stager, wife of William Stager, an Avon farmer, committed suicide on Thursday afternoon, at the family home, by hanging herself in the barn. The body was discovered by a daughter, Esther, who upon returning home from school was unable to find her mother, and upon searching the premises found the body hanging by a rope from a rafter in the barn. The deceased was aged about 52 years. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Behney, residing near Ono. She had been under treatment at a local hospital last fall, and her mind seems to have been effected by the illness. This condition is thought to have been super induced by the death of her daughter, Bertha, and the latter's husband, Paul Brubaker, who were victims of the influenza epidemic of last winter. Besides her parents, her husband, and the daughter named, she leaves a son, William, at home. Mrs. Grant Herr is a sister, and Leslie Behney is a brother. She also leaves two grandchildren, Edith and Walter Brubaker, who reside with their paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Brubaker on Pershing Avenue. [Lebanon Daily News]
