Lewis E. Beery - Longtime Decatur businessman Lewis E. "Lewy" Beery, 79, died at 9:18 p.m. Sunday in Adams County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. An Active Golfer, he was a World War II veteran in the Pacific Theater with the United States Marines and was a member of American Legion Post 43. Mr. Beery operated the Studebaker dealership from 1949 to 1951 at the south edge Decatur where Reidenbach Implement Sales is now located. He also operated Beery Motor Sales from 1951 to 1958 on First Street in Decatur; built and owned and operated the Zesto Ice Cream establishment along with Jack Irwin during the 1950's; sold used cars and later was involved with realestate rentals. He was also the owner and operator of Beery's Trailer Court, south of Decatur. He was born on September 9, 1918, in Monroe, the son of Albert and Marvel Mills Beery. He was married to Maxine Smitley on November 23, 1939; she survives.Other survivors include a son, Michael of Decatur; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Sidney) Moses of Cable, Ohio, a sister, Mrs. Vern (Mary Jane) Hornbacher of Angola, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Zwick and Jahn funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in the Decatur Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 43, Decatur. Calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to First United Methodist Church, Decatur.
