Hazel was born April 28, 1913, at Benson, a daughter of George and Bena Thierer Uphoff. She married Erwin A. Beenders on Feb. 15, 1936, at Benson. He died Aug. 25, 1985.
She was preceded in death by one brother; one sister; two sons, James and Gregory; and one grandson, Douglas.
Hazel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Roanoke, where she served as church organist for over 40 years and taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was a delegate to the International Lutheran Women's League. She was a member of the Friends In Faith and involved with prison ministries helping death-row inmates. She also volunteered as a cancer researcher.
Mrs. Beenders was an administrator in the Roanoke and Washington Nursing Homes and started several social activities in area nursing homes. She later was the Assistant Manager of Lorene's Dress Shop in Roanoke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund.
