MARIE HOLLAND BEEM (1913-2010)

Marie Holland Beem, 97, of Troy, Illinois, formerly of Shelbyville, Illinois, born February 18, 1913, in Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2010, at her residence in Troy, Illinois.
Marie lived in Shelbyville, Illinois, and surrounding communities for the majority of her lifetime with the exception of time spent in Alton, Illinois, in the late 1950s until the early 1970s.
After retirement, Marie and Bill returned to Shelbyville, Illinois, where she remained until returning to the Alton, Godfrey, and Troy areas in 2004.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who worked very hard raising seven children during the wars and after. While living in a rural setting she toiled daily with household tasks, gardening and caring for her family. Formerly, she was employed at Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou Corporation in Shelbyville, Illinois, during the war.
She was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Bill" Beem, whom she married on January 4, 1930, in Taylorville, Illinois, by the Rev. Hastings, and who died on May 19, 1990; her parents, Harv and Nora, nee West, Holland; son, Richard L. Beem; granddaughter, Barbara Duez; brothers, Joe Holland, Earl Holland, Donald Holland, Harvey "Bud" Holland; sisters, Juanita Galor, Rosemary Foor, and Irene Law.
Surviving are six of her children, William J. (Sue) Beem of Godfrey, Illinois, Donald (Sharilyn) F. Beem of Godfrey, Illinois, Sammy R. (Nina) Beem of Troy, Illinois, Zula Fay (Don) Duez of West Melbourne, Florida, June (Bob) Baughman of Springfield, Illinois, and Joan (George) Fisher of Friendship, Tennessee; twenty-four grandchildren; sixty-four great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Marie loved her family, enjoyed life and always put others before herself. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and beautiful person.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Beem's name to Hospice Patient Fund, BJC Hospice, P.O. Box 504043, St. Louis, missouri 63150-0001.
Visitation: Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville, Illinois.
Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at the funeral home. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, Illinois.
