Eleanor Lea Batt, age 85, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died on Monday, September 8, 2014 at her niece Debbie’s home.

Born August 24, 1929 in Morgan County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Henry Cyrus, Sr. and Edith Viola Pritchard Beeler.

She was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church. She attended the Mt. Garfield School and was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. Eleanor retired after 35 years of service as a jailer and cook with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department. She loved her cats, enjoyed gardening, mowing and playing bingo. She had been a homemaker in recent years.

Eleanor is survived by her niece, Deborah D. Smith of Berkeley Springs, two great nieces, Amanda B. Stevens and Alicia N. Smith, both of Berkeley Springs and three great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Batt on March 4, 2005 and two brothers, Henry Cyrus “Buck” Beeler, Jr. and James E. Beeler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV with Pastor Michael Leedom officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
