James Daniel Beeks, the eldest of nine sons, born to John William Beeks and the former Pamela Elizabeth Clardy of Ware Shoals, South Carolina.

James married Williamina "Willie" Wardlaw; with whom he had two daughters: Ruth Wardlaw (1903-1981) and Martha Elizabeth (1910-1961).

At the time of James' death in 1927, he was working for the Cross Hill Bank.
