Grace Bartlett, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 31, 1932 to Cecil and Floy Beeks in Bethany, Missouri.
She married Darryle Bartlett on January 16, 1955. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2001.
Grace was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, and a Partner in Salon #530, 8 and 40 since 1975, where she served as Departmental Chapeau and Central Division Demi Chapeau.
She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #11 since 1968, where she served as Unit President. Grace was Past President of Fourth District and has served the District in all offices as well as Chairman of many committees. She was currently serving as Chairman of Past President's Parley and the Finance Committee until her passing.
She served as Color Bearer, Sergeant-at-Arms, Chaplain, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and President with the Auxiliary Department of Missouri. Some of her chairmanships include Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation, Children and Youth, Community Service, Public Relations, Leadership, Convention Director and Representative at the Cameron Missouri Veteran Home. In addition, she was a member of the Missouri American Legion Auxiliary Girls State staff for over twenty-five years.
She was a volunteer at the Cameron Veteran's Home since they opened in 2001. She drove there every Tuesday to play bingo, pass out mail and other activities but her greatest joy for them was the Christmas Gift Shop. She went every year by herself to various stores here in St. Joseph to purchase every veteran Christmas gifts. It was very time consuming but she loved it. She did no family Christmas shopping until after all of the gifts have been purchased and given to the veterans.
Grace has volunteered for the Open Door Food Kitchen for over twenty years and Second Harvest Food Pantry for five years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and step-father, Freeman Fitzgerald.
Survivors: sons, Mark Bartlett (Pat) and Max Bartlett; daughters, Teresa Kidwell (Doug), Kathy Barber (Tom), and Nancy Tootle (Gil); grandchildren, Emily (Matt Shook), Alex and Megan, Brent and Chelsey Bartlett, Chris Beaty (Amy), Jamie Roe (J.P.), Brian Kidwell, and Jennifer Moppin (Duane); great-grandchildren, Hannah, Zoe, Vance, Reece, and Sydnee; sister, Clara Belle Gentry (Dale); brother, Bobbie Beeks (Maureen); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, Wyatt Park Christian Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
