Bruce O. Beecher, 78, of Sycamore Street died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 1:30 a.m. at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Beecher was a U.S. Army veteran, a teacher for 34 years where he retired in 1988 from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. He was a graduate from Franklin College and Butler University where he received his Master's Degree. He was a 53-year member of American Legion, a member of National Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Association and Columbus Educators Association, and was a charter member of Bar-Cons Credit Union. He enjoyed gardening, reading, biking, canoeing and walking.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. There will be no funeral service, cremation is planned.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Bruce was born in Chicago, Ill. April 29, 1930, the son of Clarence and Minerva Jung Beecher. He married Fayette A. Hill Gearhart Beecher on July 5, 1974.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Bruce D. (Kim) Beecher and Cory A. Beecher, both of Columbus; stepchildren, Kia Gearhart of Columbus, Jennifer (Jon) Manitta of Sterling, Va., Michael Beecher of Fort Myers Beach, Fla. and Lori Hiatt of Columbus; a sister, Audrey (Jack) Rostal of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Ryan and Alison Beecher; and step grandchildren, Stephen Godanis, John Manitta and Christopher, Lucy and Katy Hiatt and Marlo Beecher.
Mr. Beecher was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Janice Barrows.
Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.
