Born under the birth name Gordon Benjamin Booke as the only son of Lillian C. (Hagg) & Benjamin J. Booke in Kootenai, Idaho, Gorg was raised by his grandparents, Charles & Serena Hagg, following his parent's divorce before later relocating to San Francisco to reunite with his mother. Gorg graduated from Lowell High School (1934) and U.C. Berkeley (1941) with a B.S. from the College of Commerce (now the Haas Business School).
Gorg enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 serving with the 361st Infantry Regiment of the 91st Division in Italy during WWII before discharge as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1946. Before discharge, he legally changed his name to Gorg A. Beech. He relocated to Sacramento and worked as a real property appraiser for the Prudential Insurance Co. for 25 years. After several years with DRW selling real estate, Gorg worked for the County of Sacramento Assessor's Office again as a real property appraiser from 1972 until his retirement in 1983.
Gorg was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Marie E. Beech, in 2009 and is survived by his son, David G. Beech. He was an active father in the Boy Scouts, served as a member of the Carmichael Elks Lodge & Sons in Retirement organizations, and participated in the activities of the 361st Infantry Association. Gorg was an avid reader and a frequent contributor to the editorial page of The Sacramento Bee. He enjoyed reading historical accounts of the United States and actively supported many conservative causes. Gorg was a member and generous supporter of St. Philomene Catholic Parish and many other charitable groups.
Most who knew Gorg regarded him as a genuinely kind and loving person. He truly enjoyed all the lifelong friendships formed through work, military service, civic groups and his neighborhood. Gorg will be greatly missed, especially by his relatives and the family cat, Molly, who spent many hours asleep in his lap. The family is grateful for the services of the Camellia Assisted Living facility in Fair Oaks who cared for Gorg during the last month of his life. Interment will occur in a private ceremony at Calvary Cemetery. Please do not telephone the family residence.
